What is Nilotica shea butter?
Nilotica shea butter is the soft, creamy butter obtained from the East African shea tree, Vitellaria paradoxa subsp. nilotica. RainforestCosme offers it as a 100% single-ingredient cosmetic with no added fragrance, water or fillers.
Where does RainforestCosme Nilotica shea butter come from?
It is produced in Uganda from East African Nilotica shea nuts, then handcrafted and quality-controlled in Toulouse, France. Batch analyses are carried out in a laboratory in Bordeaux.
What is the ingredient list?
One ingredient: Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, obtained from Vitellaria paradoxa subsp. nilotica. It contains no added perfume, water, colourant or preservative.
Is it raw and unrefined?
Yes. RainforestCosme Nilotica shea butter is sold as pure, raw and unrefined. Its natural colour, scent and texture can vary slightly from one harvest to another.
What does Nilotica smell like?
It has a light natural scent that is generally subtler than classic unrefined West African shea butter. The scent usually fades after application.
Why can colour or texture vary between batches?
Nilotica is a natural, unrefined ingredient. Harvest, temperature and natural composition can produce small variations without changing its intended cosmetic use.

Is Nilotica naturally soft at room temperature?
Yes. It is naturally softer than classic shea butter and may become very creamy or partly liquid in a warm room. This is a physical change, not automatically a sign of spoilage.
Is Nilotica just a raw ingredient?
No. It can be used as a cosmetic raw material, but its naturally soft, elegant texture also makes it suitable as a finished one-ingredient daily care ritual for skin, lips, hair and dry areas.

How should I apply Nilotica shea butter to the skin?
Warm a pea-sized amount between clean fingertips, then press or massage it onto the skin. Start small: more can always be added.
Can I use Nilotica on my face?
Yes, a very small amount can be used on the face as an emollient. Patch-test first, especially if your skin is reactive or acne-prone, and avoid the eye area.
Can I use it on my lips?
Yes. Apply a trace amount to dry lips as a simple one-ingredient lip-care ritual. For external use only.
Can it be used for massage?
Yes. Its low melting point and slip make it suitable for massage. Warm a small quantity between the hands and add more gradually.
Can I use it on hands, feet and nails?
Yes. Massage a small amount into dry hands, heels, cuticles or nails. It is especially practical as an overnight treatment for very dry areas.

Can I use Nilotica shea butter on hair?
Yes. Use a trace amount on dry lengths and ends, or as a pre-shampoo treatment. Fine hair generally needs less product than thick, curly or very dry hair.
Will Nilotica make my hair greasy?
Not necessarily. Greasiness usually comes from using too much or applying it too close to the scalp. Start with less than a pea-sized amount on lengths and ends, then adjust to your hair density and porosity.
How long should I leave it on before shampooing?
Start with 20 to 30 minutes on the lengths and ends. Very dry hair may benefit from a longer treatment, but more time and more product are not always better.
Can I leave a little Nilotica in my hair?
Yes. Rub a trace between the fingertips and smooth it over dry ends or flyaways. Use the smallest possible amount, especially on fine hair.
Is it suitable for curly or textured hair?
Yes. Its soft texture makes it easy to distribute over curls, coils and dry ends. The correct amount depends on density, porosity and the finish you want.

Can I use Nilotica as a perfume base?
A very thin layer on pulse points can give fragrance an emollient base on dry skin. Apply the butter first, then perfume, and check compatibility on a small area.
Conservation
Does Nilotica shea butter need refrigeration?
Usually no. Store it tightly closed in a cool, dry, dark cupboard. Refrigeration is only a temporary option during extreme heat and may make the texture much firmer.
What if my Nilotica arrives melted?
Melting during hot weather is normal for this low-melting butter. Keep the container upright, let it return gradually to a cool room temperature and avoid repeated heating and cooling.
Why can shea butter become grainy?
Graininess can develop when different natural fats crystallise at different rates after temperature fluctuations. The grains melt on skin and do not necessarily indicate spoilage.
How long can I use the 125 ml tube after opening?
Use the 125 ml tube within 6 months after opening, as indicated by the period-after-opening symbol, and keep the cap clean and closed.

Should I patch-test it?
